Every year, we seem to have the same debate about Christmas ornaments.Do we make the tree look like it belongs in Macy’s, with expertly positioned ornaments and lights?Or do we give it some personality and make some funky ornaments that no one else will have?
Usually, we end up somewhere in the middle. And no matter which side of the fence your family’s on when it comes to ornaments, you can use these simple DIY ideas to create your own Christmas ornaments.
1.Mini Snow Globes
For these winter wonderland globes, you’ll need plastic old-fashioned light bulb ornaments, white glitter, mini bottle brush trees, red and white striped baker’s twine, and a hot glue gun.
2.Cinnamon Stick Christmas Tree Ornaments
Bend a 31⁄2″ piece of naturally coiled wrapped wire in half to form a loop, then gently push each end into the hollow part of a cinnamon stick. Use hot glue to attach cut sprigs of fresh rosemary for branches and small gems for ornaments.
3.Mini Mittens
These little 2 1/2 inch mittens are perfect to hang on the tree, decorate packages or hang from that bottled hostess gift.This is definitely a project for the intermediate knitter who is comfortable with working a small number of stitches on double-pointed needles.
4.Rustic Christmas Bell Ornaments
Materials: cardboard, paper, paint, varnish, wire, twine. The bells are made of rustic cardboard painted in white outside and decorated in decoupage technique.
5.Frosted Pine-cone Ornaments
If we aren’t mistaken, Frozen is Disney’s highest-grossing film to date. We haven’t seen the movie and don’t know if pine-cones are involved, but these make of think of the movie so we’re going to go with that. Check out how to make your own frosted pine-cones with the link above.
6.Wood Burned Snowflake
To create this rustic ornament, paint a wood slice gold, then use a wood burner to draw a pretty snowflake.
